The Context

An insurance company has successfully obtained a sponsor licence which now allows them to hire software developers from outside the UK.

We advised the client that by obtaining a Sponsor Licence, they could sponsor non-UK-national workers under the Skilled Worker visa, which would allow them to come to the UK and work here.

We looked at the client’s business and the specific role that they wanted to hire for. We then ran through the possible occupations that they could sponsor their workers for, and the salary that would need to be paid.

How We Assisted

Our team guided the client through the application process and advised as part of the licence application, the business would need to demonstrate that it was a genuine trading business, that there was a genuine vacancy, and that there was a robust compliance and HR system in place to manage the sponsorship of the employee from outside the UK.

As part of the licence application, the company would need to appoint an authorising officer, whose role would be to manage the licence on the employer’s behalf.

During this stage, we worked closely with the company to thoroughly review the documentation, so that we could ensure it complied with Home Office requirements. We advised our client that some of the mandatory documents were missing and that if these were not provided, the application was likely to be rejected.

The client provided us with the correct documentation, and we then were able to finalise the application by completing the online application form and our legal representations. The legal representations outlined the law and set out how the information and supporting documents proved that the requirements were met and the licence should be granted.

The Outcome

We assisted the client with the application submission and advised on how to submit the supporting documents. The client opted against the priority service; however, a positive decision was received after short wait of six weeks.

Following the grant of the sponsor licence, we were asked by the client to assist them in assigning the Certificate of Sponsorship, so that they could begin the process of sponsoring their worker.
